Last jury pool I was on, the judge eliminated every PoC. Needs more cowbell.
Up to now, state law barred anyone with a felony conviction from serving on a jury. This effectively silenced communities of color & prevented many from being tried by a jury of their peers. Juries are filled with relatives of law enforcement and people friendly to police and prisons. It's a vicious cycle. There aren't enough peremptory challenges available during voir dire to remove them all. This new eligibility law for convicted felons will enhance fairness.
