I'm voting for
@chesaboudin, who understands that our current system is ineffective as well as unjust, & has the clearest plan to decarcerate our city. This includes: end cash bail, focus on violent crimes, expand mental health diversion, & create a restorative justice program.1 reply 3 retweets 20 likesShow this thread -

I thought we were already ending cash bail? I'm anti incarceration. But my experience as a victim of stalking and criminal threats has seriously changed my perception of pretrial diversion and mental health diversion. I worry about victims of stalking and DV being unprotected.

My stalker's case was sent to pre-trial diversion, only for him to escalate - and threaten to rape, torture, and murder me, including photos of guns to back up his threats - upon completion of the program. I don't think it is achieving the intended outcomes.

This whole experience has created lots of internal conflict for me on this issue. I'm glad we ended cash bail and fully support that. Ability to pay should not be a factor. I'm just worried about diversion being applied incorrectly *in certain circumstances.*

I'm so sorry for your experience and how you were treated. All too often victims are an afterthought in our current approach. That's why I'm committed to building a victim's first District attorney's office.

I'd be interested in hearing more about your specific plans to better support victims and their safety. (While also reducing incarceration, which to reiterate - I'm in favor of!) I've had some bad experiences with the office and police throughout this, mixed with positive ones.
