Real sentences written by DA candidate @chesaboudin, part of a continuing series: "I too have parents who paid a heavy price for their radical politics." That's in comparing his parents' prison sentences for murder to the torture of political prisoners in concentration camps.pic.twitter.com/pakhnaXy4I

Apparently @sf_wallace doesn't think a life sentence is a heavy price to pay. Would he prefer the death penalty? Even for unarmed getaway car drivers?

It's not the "heavy price to pay" part that I am disputing. It's the part about them paying a price for their politics. They were not political prisoners.

Life in prison for being an unarmed getaway driver sounds like a politically enhanced sentence, no?

It was a murder sentence for the murder of three people. And as I understand it, it was a mandatory sentence for the crime (although the number of years before parole eligibility was up to the court).

Your understanding is flawed. It was for "felony murder" (a law that no longer exists in California (SB 1437)) which simply means they were knowing participants in a felony where someone was killed. And the judge had plenty of discretion - starting with consecutive or concurrent

Well you guys were the ones calling it a life sentence. Isn't the life sentence part mandatory with the flexibility being in eligibility for parole? And what does any of this have to do with being "politically enhanced" as Alex put it?

Hold up. What you are saying sounds like a public defender with a massive stake in the case. Why are you running for DA?
