People think fighting discrimination is easy as there must be an army of attorneys willing to fight Google on contingency. But speaking out is hard. Those who fight are labeled and stigmatized. They lose “friends” and can sometimes end up even more isolated. Speaking out is not an easy path and not everyone is in a safe space to do so.

But I do have a voice. We all do. And it’s when we use our voices that we realize how common discrimination, harassment and retaliation still is in the workplace. And it’s when we use our voices that we take power away from our abusers so they can’t hurt others.
