    Rebuttal to Google’s response to my EEOC complaint submitted! Reflecting on how fighting pregnancy discrimination has now consumed close to two years of my life. Fighting workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation is so challenging for victims. It’s not a fair fight.

    I plan to have the committee vote in executive session on SB 6934, and I think it will pass with bipartisan support. Chelsey's testimony was strong and persuasive. Six months is not enough!

    People think fighting discrimination is easy as there must be an army of attorneys willing to fight Google on contingency. The situation is much more complicated than that with many steps (eg EEOC) preceding a lawsuit that require paying hefty legal fees.

    Just found out SB 6034, extending the WA statute of limitations for reporting pregnancy discrimination, is scheduled for public hearing on 1/16. Thank you for collaborating on this bill in response to my experience at Google.

    Update: Google responded to my EEOC complaint and my attorney is drafting a final response to Google’s remarks. Once the EEOC reviews my response, we will know next steps in my legal fight. Thanks to everyone who has support my growing legal fees!

    Compare Drummond’s cush situation to my awful treatment. I reported pregnancy discrimination at Google, and in response was asked to sign a walk away agreement to end my employment at the company less than a week after delivering my daughter via emergency c-section.

    Pregnancy discrimination is still common in so many industries. We desperately need policy change in the US to enact stricter sanctions for companies that discriminate, and to make it easier for those who have been discriminated against to fight.

    But speaking out is hard. Those who fight are labeled and stigmatized. They lose “friends” and can sometimes end up even more isolated. Speaking out is not an easy path and not everyone is in a safe space to do so.

    But I do have a voice. We all do. And it’s when we use our voices that we realize how common discrimination, harassment and retaliation still is in the workplace. And it’s when we use our voices that we take power away from our abusers so they can’t hurt others.
