Regarding the second image, this is an error message which is displayed when the script detects it can't retrieve the content of the current page with a XHR (to read the raw binary data). Chromium does not allow this when the page is loaded from the filesystem.

Right. I was going to ask why you needed to load the current document from file:// in the first place vs access the comment content directly from the DOM.

I did not do the test actually... I also don't know what the HTML parser does when it parses an comment which contains invalid characters (like the null char). By accident, I also did a test where the binary of the zip contained "--", the result wasn't great :p
