Just know that for every $1.00 Kentucky pays in taxes they receive $2.18 in Federal aid. Avg KY income is $26K they rank #44 in healthcare, #38 in education, and #45 in fiscal stability. Not to mention an out of control opioid and meth epidemic. Thanks Mitch and Rand!

The cost of living index in all states you mentioned are below the national average. Some are way below. So "poor" is relative to how much it costs to live there. As far as education its a mixed bag. Look at state education rankings and most in the top 10 are GOP states.

Grew up in Alabama. The first time I ever saw a homeless person was when I traveled to California at age 26. At least the “poor” people in Alabama have homes.
