Nature magazine, often said to be the most prestigious science journal in the world, published this one. You can tell by the review's disinterested, scholarly tone:https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-06784-5 …

@QuilletteM published this one, by Greg Cochran, polymath and a curmudgeon's curmudgeon (I speak as an authority): https://quillette.com/2018/09/25/forget-nature-versus-nurture-nature-has-won/ …. Hard to believe the two reviews are discussing the same book. Read Blueprint and decide for yourself.Show this thread

Wow. Thanks for the book recommendation! This is right up my alley.
-
Wait—it’s not on audible? It’s only available for audio on a CD???? What is this, the 90s? Who even still has a CD player?
-
Right? I wanted to grab it on audible also.

Comfort's objections have almost nothing to do with science & everything to do with ideology; e.g., " . . Plomin has made it pretty clear what kind of world he wants. I oppose him." Translation: Plomin has made the facts clear & they're "not nice". I'm going to cry now.

Neither of them are book reviews so much as they're opinion pieces about genetics.
-
Ironically, the lefty academic (Nature) takes a conservative “nurture” view, while the typically conservative Quillette takes a more “progressive” eugenics view. Things seem to be getting scrambled.
-
If you can find a single word in that review that says anything about eugenics, or any kind of genetic engineering, I will buy you a lollipop. I have opinions on the subject, but they're not in that review.

Genes/DNA aren't "blueprints". That presumes context-independency when they're massively context-dependent. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2223161/ …pic.twitter.com/Yp0pyQ8Hfc
