If WMATA wants kids to swipe a card, let’s figure it out. But stop demonizing students of color (let's be honest) for fare evasion when it’s already paid for. DC hadn’t given 15,000 students their cards by Oct 31. That’s since been fixed, but what did we want those kids to do?

The KRF program isn't just for DCPS students. Charter, private, & parochial school students can get cards as well.

We can solve this by eliminating fares.

so kids that ride free don’t have a card they are actually swiping to open the turnstyle? How does the system work? Sorry for the dumb question...

I’ll add that the metro bus drivers do not ask kids to swipe on the buses, ever. THEN
@wmata proposes canceling bus lines that service the kids getting to school because they “lack riders”. Happening now at@HardyMSHawks -
I agree with drivers never asking for fare. Just let them on. However, they should be able to press some sort of counter to count them for ridership numbers
