Great conversation today with Ward 6 parents about our school & student priorities. OST $$, school-based mental health, pipelines for teachers, social workers, psychologists, & more. Add more budget 👀 to track how our dollars reach each student. Look forward to more!

I was honored to join the memorial service today celebrating William Outlaw, a revered member of Ward 6 who passed at 95. A distinguished veteran, owner of Outlaw’s Kitchen on U Street with his wife, and Mayor of his block - he lived the values of servant leader & will be missed!

I’ve been in touch w/ WMATA & WMSC. Safety recs, standards, training, & compliance are crucial. So is the relationship & trust b/w WMATA & WMSC for a shared & accountable plan to get trains back & confidence rebuilt. Both will be before Transpo Cmte Feb 2 & this will be a focus.

BREAKING-Metro says it will have to reduce service on the Blue, Orange and Silver Lines from every 15 minutes to every 25 minutes starting tomorrow lasting through most of the week to comply with recent directives from @MetrorailSafety. Train operator training is the issue #wmata

Metro’s board says structural relationship w/ its safety oversight body, the Metrorail Safety Commission, is “untenable.” Most outspoken they’ve been. Tensions from Metro’s side have been simmering for months over 7000-series return to service, operator training + other issues

👍 Zero-fare is just part of the plan. We are also investing in ⬆️ service. This is about investing in our residents, our local businesses, & in our shared spaces by ensuring people can get around our city easily, with more $$ in their pockets.

DC has done more than any state to improve the well-being of its child-care workforce. For providers like Angelique Marshall, the relief the District began providing this fall couldn't come fast enough. On the Metro front of today's :

One slide shared from point-in-time count over the last few years. But keep in mind, this count is at a single time & doesn’t reflect individuals or families that may move in & out of stable housing. Overall trend shows progress when we make significant investments in housing.

At COG today, regional leaders are spending time on ways to deepen & improve cross-jurisdictional collaboration to help individuals experiencing homelessness across DC region get services & ultimately into safe & stable housing. Regional case coordination already closing gaps.

As we reflect, let us also remember that 700k DC residents do not have a vote in that sacred building. And because of the current dysfunction, our local laws can not get approved. #DCStatehood is a matter of promoting those democratic values that we cherish and honor today. 2/2

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of a violent attack that threatened not just democracy, but our Capitol Hill community & neighbors. I’m grateful to those who fought & sacrificed two years ago to protect not just the Capitol Bldg, but the principles of American democracy. 1/2

Update: The Schools First bill passed today with amendments that bring back the provisions that 90% of "at-risk" money go to schools and that "at-risk" $ be supplemental. Thanks to and team for pushing this through and to for hearing our concerns.

I'll circle back to this later, but this is your RED FLAG ALERT that @ChmnMendelson is trying to nullify DC's legislation that requires DCPS to allocate 90% of local "at-risk" funds to schools serving "at-risk" kids. twitter.com/TheArtist_MBS/…

With this action, 7 new judges are on the way. But we’ll need more action in January. A few weeks ago, I had the entire Council reach out to the White House. Rest assured, we’re glad to see these nominations approved, but we’re asking for all our judicial vacant seats be filled.
Quote Tweet
Today the full Council asked the White House to move more quickly to nominate judges to our DC courts. Vacancies impact everything from family law & probate to criminal cases. We shouldn’t have to ask POTUS; no other place in America has to do so.

I’ve been pushing for the Senate to take action & fill vacancies on our bench. Those vacancies lead to delays in justice for victims & survivors, delays in holding harm accountable, delays in family & probate court — throughout our Courts. This is a big step to fill those holes!
