I think that’s a totally reasonable point but I think COVID has also had an effect in the opposite direction. Well...that would be true except Boudin has also reduced the jail population in SF dramatically during the course of the pandemic and yet crime in SF is at record lows. Robbery is typically a crime rooted in poverty and socioeconomic insecurity. Unfortunately, Boudin isn't mayor
I don't think it's fair to suggest that the impact of ~500 inmates being released has the same net impact on crimes being committed as the shelter-in-place of ~900K San Franciscans. Regardless, looking directly at Q1 2019 vs Q1 2020, the data shows an increase in violent crime.
