When someone as mild as Peterson is considered to be too controversial, we have a broken politics, and most significantly a broken left. Soon we will have a broken society. The result, sooner or later, one way or another, is going to be a reboot back to more traditional society.

on the one hand, he has basic theory of mind about his political opponents and advocates good practices like "first put your house in order" on the other hand, "enforce monogamy", "gee does casual sex necessitate government tyranny" stating these calmly doesn't make them "mild"

He didn't really say 'enforce monogamy' though, from what I recall, he said the reason why societies often do that is to prevent a few males monopolizing all the females. I don't think that's a contraversial statement.

Well, I thought he meant 'enforced monogamy in law', as has been the norm in much of the world. If it's not in law it's not really enforced!

that's not strictly true, it depends on the strength of custom and whether there's a social safety net

I wasn't speaking normatively, and didn't take Peterson to be speaking normatively. I took it that he was describing the state that has existed throughout much of human history.

of course he's speaking normatively, this is the arrangement he's arguing for going "back" to (i say "back" because "the state that has existed throughout much of human history" is always fictional) because he's a trad and that's what trads are into

well the thing is there's a lot of different types of trads. I think he's basically a trad in a lot of his views, but as I said, at one point being a trad would have meant you were against free speech (at least for the masses). So I have to look into what kind of trad he is.

the kind of trad who's into free speech is the kind of trad who's losing

I agree he's not the type of trad who's winning, and they're not into free speech, yes.
