Hearing stories about the pledge of allegiance from people who grew up outside of Portland is fucking SCARY. The only time they ever said the pledge from elementary to high school was at some assemblies and at least 20% stayed seated deliberately, everyone knew it was fascistic.

it sure was! in 2nd grade i think i randomly said to the teacher afterward "isn't that illegal?" and she got all huffy and said "well i think they're going to be changing that law real soon now" my vaguely-counterculturey grandmother considered me basically Superman after that
