maybe if you repeat "aww sumbuddy hurt ur widdle feefees and you turned into a nazi" at them enough times they'll decide that's what happened good plan, definitely not a preaching to the choir power signalling exercise
-
-
then there will be collateral damage, obviously, but have we figured out a better terminology, or heuristic for which elements of society need to be forcefully suppressed?
-
some people don't think any elements of society need to be forcefully suppressed, and also that speaking of people as "elements of society" first is an atrocity-producing framing. past that, is that heuristic any good now that any three outgroup markers i don't like = nazi?
-
"some people don't think any elements of society need to be forcefully suppressed" very few people actually believe that, not even most anarchists. and yeah if you have a better heuristic for producing atrocities, it is badly needed
-
i mean if i were tempted to forcefully suppress some motherfuckers i might look to outright advocacy of genocide and de jure caste division
-
there's too few of those to produce a credible enough threat to maintain a power base with though
-
well anyone who openly advocates genocide when such a thing is being suppressed is almost by definition not a real threat -if there is one, it's from those who advocate it with plausible deniability almost as if fascism is a really big problem for liberalism idk
-
right, so now we're assigning people to the category "nazi" based on what we've decided they really mean, so it's instantly at best 10% potentially effective praxis against a real threat, 90% bludgeon to punish the outgroup with
-
idk where you're getting that distribution from (as I said, open genocide advocates aren't the real threat to begin with), but apart fro that, yes, who doesn't wanna bludgeon the outgroup. doesn't mean it can play out any other way though

What is fascism is pretty succinctly defined and a significant portion of the population identifies with that definition sans the label?
-
definitions of fascism are great, there are so many to choose from just spitballing but i'd say try giving them a good alternative to fascism, like a politics with a consistent commitment to equality, instead of an opportunity to sacrifice themselves for people who hate them
-
Liberalism has a plethora of definitions, too, but there are characteristics common to all of them. The essence of fascist ideology can be pared down to a few fundamentals that a significant portion of the US population finds not only uncontroversial but indeed plain common sense
-
and we're fixing this by facile mockery of their complaints to spread around the ingroup for a good hearty power-boner belly laugh how?
-
I'm not doing that. I'm stockpiling ammunition.
-
oh, well in that case godspeed
