Last night I tried to describe the rationalist community to a friend who had never heard of it. I struggled, but finally settled on describing it as "A school of philosophy that arose on the internet rather than in the academy."

Up until this moment, I had never heard about a rationalist community. What are you rationalist with respect to? Is it survival? Socio-economic success? Morality?

weird... I would have guessed you were in the community! haha. The rationalists are the people who coalesced around Less Wrong and Overcoming Bias back in the day, and who now all read Slate Star Codex.

I haven't read those blogs. Are they available as books? I know Ribbon Farm published a couple as books. I'm reading Venkatesh Rao—not sure if he belongs to that community.
