Seems like a particularly boneheaded move to try to enforce something that’s illegal in the state where most of those jobs are likely to exist. They should still be set on fire for trying.

Companies like to HQ in states that do recognize noncompetes and then try to enforce them in their California offices. Or just write the contract and hope that the legal system will permit them to use frivolous lawsuits to pressure employees, even though they WOULD lose.
