"Hey you know that horror you feel at incels demand that the government provide them with sex & emotional labor? That's how sincere libertarians feel about demanding the state provide other services." ...And then the socialists respond by arguing for nationalizing sex work. :(

So a VR where virtual people envy the player character? That would take longer as NPCs would have to be able to pass Turing test to make it look convincing. But I don't see how is that undoable.
-
apparently people have the same neurological response to seeing familiar characters' faces on the TV as to seeing the faces of lifelong friends, so yeah, our brains are crap enough that that'd probably work
-
Hopefully by the time AI that can pass Turing test is created it would be able to do everything else as well, because such NPCs in VR would mean total collapse of motivation. Hope those three laws of robotics hold up.
-
ooh yeah bad news about the three laws of robotics, they're kind of based on a model of language where words are magic that just carry meaning around with them and translate into discrete math about as well as a crayon drawing of an apple translates into calories and vitamins
-
To be fair to Asimov, the three laws don't work that great in the books either. (Half the stories are about circumventing those in some way). So yeah, we are fucked.

I don't think so... Saying "all" presumes that all of these people are defined by a single type, and that is obviously not true because some act in violence and others do not, so there is at least a gradient in action, it seems likely there are gradients in motivation as well.
