i dunno that the microaggresions discourse is good or anything, it'd be a violation of sturgeon's law if a description of a valid and objectionable phenomenon weren't immediately exploded into a swamp of opportunistic dominance maneuvering

It’s the difference between saying “ow! Stop standing on my foot!” And “how dare you insult me by standing on my foot?!”

yeeeeah, there is kind of a thing there where people who've become conscious of a behavior stop remembering that there was a time before that or that it's possible for other people to be doing it thoughtlessly

i absolutely don't think that most people perform microaggressions because they're trying to do *anything*, i think they're monkey-see-monkey-doing
-
the thing that always gets people's backs up is basically a feeling that you shouldn't bring something to me as a behavior you want me to change if i didn't do the behavior to be *deliberately bad*, which, well, i can relate to feeling that way but it doesn't have legs on it

I think a lot of "systems discourse" posits structures that are, at most charitable, ridiculously hard to falsify unless you already have some kind of intuitive sense of them being (are not a hostile interlocutor
) and processes that are reminiscent of psychoanalytic claimsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
