RIGHT? I barely feel OK using it and I at least lived in a border state for 8 yrs.

i'm from Illinois and live in New Jersey and i started using y'all when i learned to read Torah in Hebrew and needed "y'all" to accurately translate etkhem (you plural, as opposed to atah/at, you singular)

It's okay to engage in verbal diaspora! The South needs to be known as a net exporter for more than Confederate flags, barbeque opinions, and a-holes, y'all.

Let us now discuss the proper timing and usage of 'all y'all.'

I'd concur, it's much more context-sensitive than 'y'all', and my prior statement about multiple groups can also be about inclusive SETS as separate groups.

I feel like it's got a tonal dictate, too, that is, all y'all are in trouble, if you hear that.

It's definitely declarative in a forceful way

my understanding is that all y'all is the collective inflection of the second person plural, like if you ask "what are y'all doing later?" you're asking what each person is doing and if you ask "what are all y'all doing later?" you're asking what the group is doing later

I'd concur as a legit use example. Y'all (and its derivatives) allows for great amounts of context-sensitivity for the grouping/supergrouping mechanism.
