look at this normie thinking vat grown beef and climate geoneering aren't going to make that a non-issue within a generation

but pale cur you know that's technological solutionism and we hate technological solutionism because it implies that mass scale mind control isn't necessary and we love mass scale mind control because people not thinking the same way we do is a personal attack

Climate change stuff makes me feel so weird. On one hand, I do think the scientific evidence is there (I am perhaps somewhat unusual in thinking ocean acidification >>> normie shit concerns like redistribution of arid areas or hurricanes) on the other...

... on the other, solutions "let's limit emissions/rethink society" types propose are abjectly fucktarded. It's megascale geoengineering or fucking bust, this much is at this point obvious.

Hmm. I don't think so. Solar and wind power are pretty much economically superior at this point, at least up to supply-vs-demand time-alignment limitations which are nowhere near binding yet (and only pending cheaper storage). Emissions flat for the past ~3-4 years.

What about energy storage, though?

We still have a decent amount of headroom under the typical daily energy usage curve. Solar output tends to coincide reasonably well with peak demand during the day also. Better to worry about storage when it is actually a constraint.

But what about overnight? Cloudy days? Or at high latitudes?

yeah, tbh if there's anything i learned from playing Rimworld it's that a solid chunk of capacitance really helps even out rough spots

up until all your capacitance decides to ground through one outlet, anyway

Electrical generation capacity is always mixed anyway. There will still be plenty of cheap gas power plants to fire up and spin down to smooth out the gaps in solar and wind capacity. Nuclear can be modulated as well. Not so bad, emissions-wise.
