I have no idea what that means (and I'm kind of afraid to ask), but reading it, the term, "rent-signaling" popped into my head. So, that happened.

that's very apropos, actually it means that morality you're supposed to *strive* for, you strive for because performing it makes you The Right Kind of Person who gets The Good Things just as a reward for being The Right Kind of Person
-
if you're already getting The Good Things, then you need to make a show of Being The Right Kind of Person to prove that you deserve them
-
which is now "rent-signaling", so thanks for that

Hmm. Is it rent-seeking if you just prefer to do that thing, or is it no longer moral virtue if your morality is by default or by natural preference? Or is the good stuff then just lack of cognitive dissonance or feeling bad?
-
for purposes of this trolling i'm using "moral virtue" to mean behavior that's held up as praiseworthy and rewarded, culturally, so if you're just doing it on your own and nobody else is rewarding you for it then it's not rent-seeking, just hedonic optimization, which is good
-
Oh, rewarded by other people...?
Oh well. I was almost making rent. So close. What's the ideal morality type for paying off a mortgage? -
bourgeois, of course
-
Of course. Sigh.

I keep coming back to this, trying to disagree, and failing. Please tell me this is trolling and let me in on the joke. ...
-
it's trolling for sure, but not the kind that uses fake ideas, i'm afraid
-
Don't call up things you can't put down.
-
oh, i can put down anything, i have discovered the ultimate banishment: wait for heat death
-
heat death is when the monopoly on legitimate use of force prevents you from running the air conditioning
-
common misconception. it's actually a LACK of heat e.g. when your landlord won't turn the gas on even though it's late november
-
if your place includes utilities then running an electric heater in every room is actually an advanced form of praxis

Moral virtue for the sake of itself is rent-seeking, but are all moral virtues necessarily tautological? Or should I have another glass of wine? Oh I answered my own question sort of. Are all archetypes abstractions per se?
