veganism is a symptom of having experienced or witnessed compassionate parenting sufficiently to cling to an inchoate core belief that the world will stop hurting you if you can just not deserve it hard enough

I'm not impressed by this argument. For me, veganism is a symptom of having read enough climate research and USDA land use data to know that meat production poses a major environmental threat, and a symptom of having found out what hatcheries do to the male chicks.

I don't "want the world to stop hurting me". I want to put my money where my mouth is.

Also hah at "compassionate parenting". Yes, I learned veganism from regular beatings that were frequently not explained. Makes perfect sense.

IME any time the topic is raised in any way people will consider it "annoying propaganda" and go on long and sometimes rather bizarre rants about how annoying vegans are. There is one exception: So far nobody has flamed me for posting a recipe or talking about cooking. (Yet.)

i try not to fall prey to the traps of continental philosophy and keep my rants concise
