find it funny that "qualia" is a really popular term among rationalists despite how most of them think consciousness is an illusion like, qualia were introduced as a philosophical argument against that kind of dismissal

Wait who thinks consciousness is an illusion? How could anyone think that?

Rationalists, with their focus on "objective reality," tend to be radically materialist, i.e. they hold a belief "...that matter is the fundamental substance in nature, and that all things, including mental aspects and consciousness, are results of material interactions." (wiki)

Idk if I'd describe the radical materialist position as "consciousness is illusionary" but they believe it's merely an emergent property of matter. In contrast, an idealist might argue that without consciousness, there would be no "matter", as perception precedes conception.

From my very under-educated point of view, the entire idealism vs materialism debate seems muddied and feels to me like an "introvert vs extrovert" pick-your-favorite-axioms type deal.
