*never* think of preparation for an adverse event that didn't happen as having been wasted effort. *always* think of it as a magical ritual by which you successfully warded off the adverse event, since the universe is bored by throwing things at you that you're prepared for.

I’ve lived my whole life making minor adjustments to my behavior to account for the small chance I could lose one hand or the other and I’m super OK with never needing to actually use any of those skills.

Oh I’m sure my praxis is horribly sporadic and unsystematic, it’s more just the idea of being aware that hand-dominance is a systemic weakness. *goes back to practicing using the left foot on the kick pedal*
