I have a speculative/historic question. American Comics originally had a huge variety of genres. Even considering the Comics Code, they took a huge turn towards superheroes almost completely dominating the mainstream. Why?

the irony of this being that both radio & moving pictures (especially serials) tried to adopt the superhero genre themselves but only until recently did they find success even close to the popularity of superhero comics (and superhero radio shows did *quite* well)
