I've always hated "Jack and Diane" - and most of Springsteen's catalog as well. I know romanticism is a lie, but it's warm and all my friends are there.

yeah but its especially hokey with heartland rock because they talk about the common man as some type of superhero

Rock'n'roll is often about heroes when it's not about rebels or love. Then you get Michael Moorcock helping out Blue Oyster Cult and you end up with "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" and "Black Blade".
