Glad ro see I sisnt feel alone with the pacing issuea. I loved Planetary & adore the themes of exploring iconic heroes through the lens of Secret History & pulp action. imperfect 1
I think it gets a lot better as it goes along but I don't think it's his best work. Still, I give it credit for failing boldly, and I would still call it a must read.
tbh i think it's his second best work, maybe third
I'm more partial to Transmetropolitan. I still find Planetary grapples with such big ideas about pulp heroes that I love it, though. Imperfect but ambitiously so
yeah, Transmet is #1. the other contenders for #2 are Supergod and Black Summer i think; Injection and The Wild Storm might wind up there
Oh really? The only Avatar Press stuff I've read was No Hero and I found it very disappointing. I'll have to check those out.
i found No Hero pretty delightful so my taste is probably not reliable for you, but Black Summer is definitely better at least
I can't remember what it was about No Hero that put me off exactly but I think I expected something more psychedelic but got a pretty bleak story instead.
ah, yeah, it's for sure bleak as fuck with psychedelia placed strictly in a role of a tool of the bleakness
