That depends on the reason. Dead broke but with a job? The end of the following month. Argument with roommate/spouse and not on the old lease? Three weeks. If they ARE on the old lease and on the hook for its rent? Or dead broke with NO job? You have a roommate.

End of the following month. By then, they've had a month+ to save up for rent/deposit, and a room for rent/roomate situation is cheap enough in most locations. If they're not saving up, they have no intention of leaving.

6 months is pretty much my limit but I also make that clear from day one. If a big credit event happened might extend to a year so they can save the extra deposit.
