why would you identify with it? that makes no sense

well, for one thing, if you're passionate about something (say, a hobby) you might to an extent start to identify with the objects or tools needed to participate in that hobby. i don't see why that's necessarily bad

so i guess it depends on how broadly you mean "identifying with a brand". and if it means something fairly narrow it seems, maybe it's a reasonable thing to hate, but still not really central to what's wrong with (or what drives) capitalism

when i think about consumerism or what i dislke about it, i think about when someone literally dies trying to buy a TV on black friday or when someone gets a tattoo of monster energy drinks on their arm

but i do agree that people who make anti-consumerism a central focus of what they take about capitalism have a horrible focus and think buying things is oppressive or something

generally it seems to translate as "capitalism makes people behave in a way that isn't classy and makes me feel like i'm slumming"
