I have a true story about Ogun that I have only ever told one person (a white voodoo priest) but I feel like maybe it's time to tell someone else. No Red Bull involved, sorry to disappoint.

but it is ACTUALLY a true thing that happened to me and remains confusing. So if you were really just making a throway comment here please say so and I'll stuff it.

oh no feel free

alright then, I will. here is the stupid disclaimer that I say only to preserve some semblance of normality: I'm a skeptical person, "voodoo" is not my native culture, and life is full of contradictions especially the mental life of strange people like me.

On 3 occasions beginning in 2015 and continuing into 2016 I had an encounter with a figure that said these words to me. "A war. They are fighting a war."

On each of the occasions it was a different individual person but the person broadly matched the same archetype. The archetype could best be summarized as "avatar of Ogun, in 21st century clothing"

a middle aged black man, with close cropped hair or shaved head. work boots. tall but in a stocky/muscular way, upper body strength like the kind you get from working with your arms all day. carrying a conspicuous object related to technology. bag of tools, in one example.

on each of the 3 occasions I was traveling to somewhere. twice on foot, once on the subway. the man said the words to me in passing and went in the opposite direction of me. disappeared too quickly to follow.
