we hate Ready Player One like we do because none of us are unfamiliar with awful nerds who mistake a collection of in-jokes for a personality, and RP1 is a fantasy of the ultimate triumph of their worldview plenty of us used to be them, which is where true hate comes from

Fallout 3 was good, it just went nuts with the whole "tradition" of cutesy cultural references. easter eggs are not supposed to be a thick carpet crunching underfoot
