Let's be real, maaaybe going around destroying military bases isn't good (and that's a maybe) so Magneto might not be the best leader ever... But Mr "Maybe one day they'll accept us and wouldn't that be great! :D" is kinda hardly a very good leader either.

Looking back at it now, Xavier seems like the sort of political leader who insists change is slow and we can't expect anyone to change or treat us with respect right away. The sort of middle class queer person who turns up their nose at people who stand out flamboyantly.

Just trying to live along side people and have them accept you as who you are is one thing, but its kinda hard to not see the depictions I've seen of Xavier as the sort who is more about the maligned group pleading for slow gradual process and surrendering their identity in turn.

i prefer the New X-Men version of Xavier, who was clearly a mutant supremacist who only differed with his pal Erik on methods and timetable, preferring to ease the human power structure into dependency on mutants and take over in a quiet palace coup

I find it hard to argue against that version from the sound of it. Murder does tend to leave a permanent bad taste in people's mouth, whereas political manipulation/domination is seen as civilized and clever.

I always find it weird when they try to portray him as soft and cuddly after nearly every continuity has established him as grossly manipulative and Machiavellian.

the only really well-written Charles Xavier is Niles Caulder, tbqf
