if i wanted to make a 401(c)3 non-profit arts foundation Patreon killer that used a closed intermediary grant algorithm to keep from being a money transmission service but still let you effectively direct support toward creators, would you crowdfund starting it and/or subscribe?

It sounds pretty cool actually. I’m always skittish about any statement like “the algorithm will” but I know it’s just Twitter brevity.

i do in fact intend for The Algorithm to be pretty spooky because it looks to me like it has to be in order to not be a laughably facilitative vehicle for money laundering but there would certainly be a lot more discovery to be done

one thing i'd want to do in order to cushion the impact of changes to it, and funding vicissitudes in general, is provide a commitment to a minimum grant you'll get next month (if you don't get suspended or otherwise made persona non grata)

so your monthly update would be like, you got $500 this month, current best estimate is that you'll get $520 next month, we are committing to you getting at least $250 next month
