if i wanted to make a 401(c)3 non-profit arts foundation Patreon killer that used a closed intermediary grant algorithm to keep from being a money transmission service but still let you effectively direct support toward creators, would you crowdfund starting it and/or subscribe?
don't really understand what you're saying. any fixed percentage isn't workable because non-profits can't retain very much money; fixing it at 5% like Patreon could easily lead to breaking the accounting

my gut response to the prospect of an accusation of "profiteering" in an organization that legally isn't allowed to have profit, b/c drawing a salary, is "i'm building a platform to facilitate you getting paid, and i can't get paid? let me be the first to say: fuck you, pay me"
