Golden Compass or whatever limeys call it in the land of the filthy sassenach is great, i thought the other two fell over incredibly flat i think opinions are strongly divided about that though so ymmv

any time you want some high fantasy that has that D&D campaign feel but like, the intimidating D&D campaign at the really nice but kinda spooky store with the DM who makes his players roleplay and does research and shit, get you some of his Dragaera books

but the reason i bring him up is that Amber is written in a perspective that most of the people who read it independently wind up terming "first person smartass", which also finds itself in full flower in Steve's Vlad Taltos books (a subset of Dragaera)

also i should be careful about calling Dragaera high fantasy, because some people would absolutely call it low fantasy, since some people use high/low there to use high/low prevalence of fantastic elements and some people use it for lords 'n ladies vs. street 'n grimy
