for most of my life i regarded "y'all" as a distasteful shibboleth of an alien tribe i had enough contact with to dislike. then i learned to read classical Hebrew, which requires "y'all" in order to most faithfully translate "etchem", where "atah" and "at" are "you"

This is why I try to invoke multiple conflicting shibboleths, like properly using “whom”, “fewer” and “y’all’d’ve” in the same sentnence wherever possible.
