what an incredible victory for capital to redefine the "middle class" as slightly better-treated workers and holy shit everybody bought it

and 99% the time if you stop to try to use a theoretically sound meaning to these terms someone will call you a class traitor

working

oh, right. "I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half." —Jay Gould. this is how you do it.
-
you give them a bit more money and aggressively finance their homeownership, then tell them, "you're what 'bourgeois' means now, have fun".

marxists didn't invent these words. marx was one of those intellectuals who reused words a lot.
-
marxists didn't have their words redefined under them -- they had their ideology and its lingustic idiosyncrasies marginalised
-
enh, maybe but i'm dubious, it seems like they were all way closer to Marxist theoretical usage a while ago
-
because a) marxists preserve a bunch of 19th cen stuff that nobody cares abt anymore [eg weird theories of value and 'political economy']
-
except because soviet union and all that, instead of just being old-fashioned, the words instead smelt of marxism
-
b) in a discourse where marxism is valued -- dare i say 'valorised' -- of course marxist interpretations of words will have more currency
