Thought experiment: imagine the praise youd heap onto Obama if he had rejected the fees, then hold him to the standard of that fictional man
and if he doesn't that's meh, not particularly relevant, he's not captain socialism, he's deeply a part of the system
-
-
I'm unclear: are you saying his (or any individual's) actions aren't meaningful, don't meaningfully speak to the systemic problem?
-
i'm saying his actions aren't inconsistent with anything he demonstrably stands for, we can demand he stands for other things i guess, sure
-
but he is free to decline, as he historically has
-
oh, right. I was speaking to people who would 1)argue that 400k speaking fee is bad but 2) don't want to blame O for "getting his"
-
Maybe no one's actually in this category
-
i mean, i guess i'd shrug at him "getting his" if that's how it goes down. it's not what Jesus would do, but other than that...
-
I think it'd be a powerful gesture coming from one of the most scrutinized people in the world, & that not doing it is the gesture inverted
-
yeah, that's fair i spose

isn't the point of all this that intellectually lazy liberals routinely fail to recognize that fact, though? "Our Man Bombs and All"
-
that would be the first point to it i've heard of. not super impressed with how good it is at getting that across
-
"Obama isn't a degree of anti-capitalist self-sacrificing previously utterly unheard of in former US presidents" is news to somebody i guess
-
well Carter
-
ha yeah touche, that guy's certainly running some robust software
