ymmv, but i find that maintaining this sort of attitude makes doctors speak to me more plainly, less pedagogically, and more respectfully

to some minor extent they seem to start relating to me more as a somewhat adorably ignorant hobbyist in the area of their profession

definitely be humble in your deference to the learning of the senior nerd; trying to play big shot expert has only two possible outcomes

either you'll (most likely) come off as an asshole poseur and defeat the point, or you'll pull it off and thereby compromise your treatment

the last thing you need is your doctor unconsciously assuming you know more about your treatment options than you do
