sad tale of how rough it is to realize ppl are using a game to work through anxiety and suddenly feel above all that http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/07/magazine/letter-of-complaint-cards-against-humanity.html …

But I do agree in general... I mean, "black people" is not a *punchline*, but in this game it very literally is. Kinda gross.
-
certainly can be, but i feel like an important bit is being elided in that it never is unless somebody makes it into one
-
he talks about the limits of the cards in your hand as an excuse, but you always have choices other than "black people"
-
Yeah, and then you're stuck with that card in your hand forever because there's NO appropriate occasion to play it. Ever. :P
-
what, you don't play with any hand-clearing options? brutal

Huh. I was looking for the 'anxiety being worked through' bit but didn't 'get it'. Probably I'm misunderstanding the phrase.
-
oh, i guess like "naughty giggling", "nervous parents", "accidental racists", "safe rebellions" etc. all seem about anxiety to me
-
That said, I still have the game and almost all the expansions. I just throw out the pointlessly racist and sexist cards.
-
*nodnod* a well-known approach
-
Even so, it turns out there are a SO MANY better icebreaker games I can play that I haven't played CAH in years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
well, sure, when Slash is out there. why settle for Holocaust jokes when you can have Zeus fucking Treebeard
-
Or Poo, because even my dad giggles like a little girl when it comes to poop. Actually, my list of awesome games is SO long now.
