@nickspencer Problem for DC is their last two attempts into niche territory failed pretty badly (with some really good books, at that). +>
@womzilla @nickspencer for me the brand's value has gone negative for offbeat, like if i recommend PREZ i need to apologize for it being DC

@chaosprime I'll note that while there are several new DC titles I'm unabashedly excited for, the "offbeat" is almost completely submerged+> -
@chaosprime Hard to imagine Hope Larsen or Priest doing a "normal" book now, but they'll *look* normal. -
@womzilla to some extent there's a question of "if your book is a) offbeat and 2) any good, why isn't it with Image" -
@womzilla i don't even myself know what an answer to that other than "it only works with an IP i don't own" much looks like tbh -
@womzilla i felt bad for the big post-Berger Vertigo relaunch because of that, and i don't seem to have been wrong to be concerned -
@womzilla only socks-knocking-off thing in the line is CLEAN ROOM so however they've managed to keep on Gail Simone's good side, great work -
@womzilla (not to say ASTRO CITY isn't delightful as ever [but hardly a fit for Vertigo] or JACKED and SHERIFF OF BABYLON aren't quite good)

@chaosprime@nickspencer I hadn't seen that resistance, but I'm not on the retail frontlines; I can believe it. -
@womzilla@nickspencer a lot of it is how negative my own view of DC has gotten but i don't feel out of tune with the market that way either -
@womzilla@nickspencer it's honestly weird to feel that way about the house of DOOM PATROL & SANDMAN that's still producing PREZ & OMEGA MEN -
@chaosprime ... and BATGIRL and GOTHAM ACADEMY and SECRET SIX, glorious oddball superbooks all. But yeah, I can see that.
