At one point someone was positing that a Monk with the right abilities could grab someone, drag them up a wall 200 feet, and drop them.

The monk would fall, too, (as it uses an ability where you have to end your turn on solid ground), but avoid falling damage because monk.

Some people crunched the numbers and figured out this would often do less damage in the same time the monk could just hit them a bunch.

But I didn't see anyone else pointing out that Ye Olde Pseudomedieval World isn't littered with walls that tall.

The tacit assumption is, if I *could* run hundreds of feet vertically in one round, there *must* be a vertical surface that tall handy.

Funnily enough, while the theorycrafters assume battlefields will conform to their combos, they disparage a similar idea outside of combat.

You can't count non-combat stuff when evaluating a character build, they say, because it depends on the DM giving you a set-up to use it.

Thief skills except Stealth don't count for anything, because the DM has to put a lock or a trap or something worth lifting off someone.

The Ranger's survival skills don't count because the DM has to put the party in situations where they matter.

The Warlock's ability to do all the wonderful things Warlocks can do that aren't blasting holes in people don't count, for the same reason.
