(Content warning ableism) While sifting thru game discussion boards, I do not understand... what does it mean when a game is dumbed down?

It seems they mean that the game is more accessible to new players, but they seem to write that this makes the game even less accessible.

While googling stuff for Bethesda games (Fallout, Skyrim) I keep running across comments angry about the "dumbing down" of these games.

I have NO idea what that's supposed to mean and I've seen it enough times that I'm starting to get irate every time I read that.

@gersandelf when it's a legit complaint it's about making the game more accessible to new players at cost of making it shallower for experts1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@gersandelf there were ways that Oblivion felt dumbed down that way compared to Morrowind, though i couldn't say exactly how, been a while1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@gersandelf i'm sure some people complain about improved accessibility that doesn't cost anything, too, which is just clubhouse bullshit1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
@gersandelf incidentally i'd say Skyrim recovered ground that Oblivion lost, as far as this concern goes (esp. in console vs. PC conflicts)
