@mechapoetic i have some vague hope that post-GG ppl have a clearer idea of what The Man Keeping You Down looks like & how it's not critique
@mechapoetic sure, but you can go waaaay in the other direction, too. Dwarf Fortress is no kind of scripted exercise.

@chaosprime sure but you're still acting within a world where stuff happens according to design, programming, the player learns+accepts thatThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@chaosprime even in games with lots of options or loose parameteres i'm still exploring SOMEONE ELSE'S WORLD, by their rules, their POV -
@mechapoetic sure. or one they constructed, or seeded, at least. this seems like a worthy thing to me, and empathy-building.

@chaosprime (which is why "agency" is often used to absent things like politics from design and a big reason i'm skeptical of it)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@chaosprime so yes, it is a scripted exercise, just maybe not in the most obvious way -
@mechapoetic dubious. i see a qualitative difference between "stab Polonius fast or stab Polonius slow" vs. "do any of 10,000 things". -
@chaosprime yes, these are different kinds of scripted things you can be allowed to do in a given situation! -
@mechapoetic sure. there are literally no situations that can't be reduced to that description. degree of constraint still signifies. -
@chaosprime ok so that categorically matters then. it's a fundamental truth. -
@mechapoetic i dunno. do you experience having two options the same way as having 10,000? do we think there is such a person? -
@chaosprime well, no? that's not what i'm saying at all though. i experience different forms differently. that's not my argument.
