We're reluctant to accept feelings as evidence because we all know ourselves to be consummate experts in manipulating our own feelings.
@StevenBrust I think that's a popular story about the matter. I hate to be a hipster about it, but its popularity doesn't speak well of it.

@chaosprime It's a popular theory that the Earth revolves. I mean, popularity, by itself, isn't evidence. At least, those are my feelings. -
@StevenBrust So we conflate "evidence" with "objective" and "emotion" with "subjective". Does maybe a bit of harm in criminal justice. -
@chaosprime When I stepped on my ex's foot, her feeling was that I did so deliberately in order to hurt her. Should that be evidence? -
@StevenBrust Her pain is a feeling. Her story about it is a thought. The difference is critical.
