@dicentra33 But if it's a bad decision—in a world where bad decisions are marketed to you 24/7/365.24—then under the bus you go. @Karnythia
@dicentra33 No doubt, people who follow it will do better than otherwise. But I'm sick of policy that boils down to "just be exceptional!"

@chaosprime It's also not policy, it's advice. Policies are for governments; advice is for individuals and communities. -
@dicentra33 When the ideological thrust is that "gubmint" asst should be dismantled because everybody should just work hard, that's policy. -
@chaosprime I'd prefer to help ppl off assistance so that it shrinks back from lack of demand. But gubmint's instinct is to grow, not shrink -
@dicentra33 And that's why it's more important to rail against the things that actually *are* helping people than to help them, then? -
@chaosprime My contention is that gubmint welfare does more harm than good because of dependence among the fit. -
@dicentra33 This idea that there's a nontrivial amt of welfare abuse going on totally came from somewhere not Reaganoid race-baiting, right? -
@chaosprime I personally know ppl who are capable of working but don't because they're parasitic pigs. I also know ppl who need help. -
@dicentra33 I guess I'd rather risk feeding the pigs than risk starving the rest. - 2 more replies

@dicentra33 Not everybody can be exceptional. This isn't just a practical impossibility, it's a logical one. Those who can't aren't ballast. -
@chaosprime On the contrary: I know tons of people who are ordinary but they know where their next meal comes from.
