Is there any value to a philosophy department at universities or it is intellectual "underwater basket weaving"?
@OrdQuelu Trying to figure out what of his blather is said excuses. It's difficult. At least on twitter, annoying vaguetweeting is short.

@chaosprime depended on a distinction between “logical implication and conversational implicature.” 2/2 -
@OrdQuelu Ugh, fucksake. He went into that here: http://mcginn.philospot.com/index.php?story=story130612-071042 …. Thought I smelled something. -
@OrdQuelu Sure, buddy, if you *technicalize* the "I was just joking!" defense, that'll totally help. -
@chaosprime obfuscation can work wonders & he has a degree in it. -
@OrdQuelu Yes. And him having written a book about why you shouldn't do that. Don't throw all philosophy in the bin because of him, though. -
@chaosprime I don't. He's a symptom. Too much philosophy seems in the tradition or Duns Scotis. It ignores reality for what sounds good. -
@OrdQuelu Well, an enormous chunk of it is ethics, which is about constructing reality, not naturalistic reality. So that's kinda natural. -
@chaosprime true, but it also has a tendency toward paternalism or ignoring underlying assumptions when it comes to ethics. - 4 more replies

@OrdQuelu A fine example of how a tool that can be used to clarify can also obscure when clarity doesn't suit the user's purposes, though.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
