Is there any value to a philosophy department at universities or it is intellectual "underwater basket weaving"?
@OrdQuelu I'd say the value of philosophy is in clarifying terms of analysis. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/l/ludwigwitt101117.html …) This is spectacularly important.

@chaosprime it seems to me to obfuscate as much as clarify, if not moreso. -
@OrdQuelu Yeah, well, fuckin' undergrads. Tools can be used in ways that give them value and ways that make you wish they didn't exist. -
@chaosprime it is the professors that seem to do this most. See Colin McGinn & others. -
@OrdQuelu "Cognitive closure" guy? That seems straightforward; throwing your hands up in the air and citing ineffability isn't obscure. -
@chaosprime no, his bullshit excuses for sexually harassing his grad student. -
@OrdQuelu Trying to figure out what of his blather is said excuses. It's difficult. At least on twitter, annoying vaguetweeting is short. -
@chaosprime http://bit.ly/17tOzRR Properly understanding another e-mail to the student that included the crude term for masturbation, 1/2
