have spent most of the hours this week trying to get environments set up to the point that i can write code.
@wirehead2501 Reminds me why I should never trust a coder who isn't also a sysadmin. Haven't done what you're doing? Who held their hand?

@chaosprime hmm i dunno. there was a time i wouldn't trust anyone who didn't serve their own domain from a machine in their living room. -
@wirehead2501 Only really needs to be modified from "didn't" to "couldn't". :) -
@chaosprime nowadays i tend not to trust people who insist on rolling their own instead of using the resources available, oddly. -
@wirehead2501 On the other hands, there seems to be a steady trickle of third-party-API-rug-yanked-out-from-under horror stories and such. -
@chaosprime agreed. i mean, this is why open source, really. and paying for services. -
@wirehead2501 Yeah. I guess at some point you gotta let go of the garage-hacker mindset if you're not actually in a garage. -
@chaosprime that's a good way of putting it! some people never grow out of the "start from scratch every time" mentality, & it's limiting.

@chaosprime but nowadays, i do very little sysadmin stuff and it's pretty great. of course web technologies have their own hairiness. -
@wirehead2501 Yeah, no argument that I'm not happier the less of it I do. Specialization needs awareness of its context, though.
