I don't get it. The throw-away compiler still has to produce a coherent AST even if you don't care about the executable. It seems as phenomenal a leap to get from one to two than from n to m.

think of it more like system boot BIOS knows how to find bootloader, bootloader knows how to find kernel, kernel knows how to find OS, OS knows how to find applications, applications know how to find content
