@chaosprime … ok, so break this down for me into tiny tiny little pieces that I can eat like thought candy. If I stand in a yellow wood, and two roads stand before me, then I can choose which road to walk? Or at least, I am able to walk either (but not both) roads. 1/n

So you mean ‘deterministic’ in the sense of ‘the complete chain of events from the beginning of (some notion of) everything has created the me of that moment and the woods of that moment’. Ergo the me of that moment and the woods of that moment force the the decision?

now, given that there's no such thing as an identical any of those things at two different points in time or space, the reproduction scenario does not actually occurhttps://twitter.com/chaosprime/status/1258536005923074052 …

but there's also no sense in which you could have done something differently from what you did in the actual situation you arrived in

why? this has an unstated premise that the universe is deterministic but what if that's a false premise?
-
it might not be, but that doesn't help "free will", if our actions are uncaused they're even less free than if they're caused

This confuses me a bit. Is choice the right word for what’s happening then?
-
seems fine to me, there's a process of action potentials being resolved to a course of action, that seems like "choice" and to be what's being presented to the consciousness as it "making a choice"

framing of free will "versus" determinism never made any sense to me either like, even on a macro scale, there are choices that are clearly free and yet also clearly predetermined if my brother is starving it is predetermined that I will freely choose to give him food
-
ooh that sounds like a juicy kind of freedom what makes that choice free
